16 Nov 2007 - Newsletter

Christmas is but 5 short weeks away, and if like most of us, you have more shopping to do than time to do it in, then the Hindlip First School Christmas Bazaar next Friday 23rd November could be your answer. The stall holders will be in the School Hall from 3.00 - 5.00 p.m. offering cards and gifts for old and young alike, helping with ideas for that Big shop of the Year!

There's lots for you to choose from, whether it be educational gifts from Tish Tash Toys, stocking fillers from Cox and Cox or picking up that Usborne book your child requested, through to something special for yourself from the Body Shop or Virgin Vie. We've even tempted back Mrs King (the former Headteacher of Hindlip) to display her handmade Silver Jewellery products. Other businesses supporting and attending the event
include Phoenix Cards, Plant Stuff, Allen Arts, David's Nurseries and Nicola Gardner selling her lovely
cushions. To make the shopping experience stress free, many stall holders will also take orders on the day, then deliver your purchases straight to your door, so no need to worry about how much you can carry. Yellow Class (Years 2 and 3) will be demonstrating what they have been undertaking in their Young Enterprise Project. There will be various items available to purchase or order including a must for all Mums and Grandparents, the Hindlip First School 2008 calendar tea towel, featuring a self portrait of every child attending the school. They are also offering something for the children with hair braiding, make up, tattooing and a beat the goalie competition, with musical entertainment provided by pupils from Years 3 and 4 on the drums.

Yellow class and the Friends of Hindlip are also organising a raffle, with all the stall holders donating an item of their wares as a prize. Tickets are on sale over the whole of next week, priced at a £1.00 each, with the grand prize draw taking place on the night. All proceeds from the raffle and the Friends of Hindlip refreshment stall, will go towards new equipment for the School.

We look forward to welcoming all friends and family at the Hindlip First School Christmas Bazaar next Friday from 3.00 to 5.00 p.m. with cheque books in tow.

Well done to the Year 2 children who took part in the Cluster Schools Multi Skills Festival last Wednesday. They did activities on balance, coordination and agility and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event. They were a credit to the school and their skills were most mpressive.

Next week is Anti Bullying Week. Special assemblies and work will be done during the week along this theme.

Thank you for supporting Children in Need today. We raised £91 which will be sent to the charity.

There are no staff due to be absent from their classes for school development next week.

Thank you for your voluntary contributions of £1.50 per session or £15 for the term - these are needed for us to sustain the music project in Years 3 and 4.

Please could you ensure your child has outdoor PE kit in school as the weather is getting colder now. This includes a tracksuit top and bottoms. Trainers may be worn for outside PE lessons.

A big thank you to Julia Letts who led a lesson on radio jingles for Yellow Class. This is to advertise their Young Enterprise stalls at the Friend's Bazaar. Some of the children will come out onto the playground on Tuesday to play them to you. It was a super session and they all enjoyed this new experience.

Thank you for coming to Parents' Evening last week - it was good to see it so well supported. A common question from parents of Blue Class was when Mrs Gilmour (who is on a temporary contract) will be replaced by Mrs Reading (who has been on maternity leave). It is envisaged that this will be just before February half term, although this is yet to be confirmed. As soon as I know further details you will receive a letter outlining the changes. Thank you.

Try out this website at home - a great competition/design activity.

Dear parents,

As the winter seems to be drawing in on us could you please ensure that your children have the following items with them for their gardening session on Friday mornings:
 A pair of gloves
 A woolly hat
 A thick coat
 Extra socks

If in doubt please feel free to pack extra, as it is easy to remove layers but not so good if your child is cold. The lessons are a great hands on experience for the children, but not very pleasant for them if they are cold.

Yours sincerely,
