12 Oct 2007 - Friday Newsletter
Good luck to the Year 4 pupils who are travelling to Droitwich Leisure Centre next Wednesday 17th October to compete in the Cluster Schools Indoor Athletics Event. They are to be picked up at 12:00 and will return by home time. Please could parents ensure children have their school PE kit (blue shorts, white shirts) and a drink available. This event has been made possible due to our good links with Droitwich High School and we thank them and Mrs Thomas for their hard work behind the scenes.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Lorenna Lewis who has taken over the post of part time secretary for two days a week. She will work on Mondays and Wednesdays in the office. There was a strong field of candidates so well done to her. We wish her every
success in her new post.
Next Week is Science Week
Thank you to the Friends of Hindlip who are donating £300 towards the cost of our science week which starts on Monday 15th October. Part of this week is an exciting whole school trip to the Thinktank at Millennium Point, Birmingham on Tuesday 16th. Please send the £8 contribution into the office. There is also a visit from the Animal Woman (Mrs Horne) on the Thursday which will be funded by the school. The children will also do a number of exciting experimental activities of a practical nature. Thanks must go to Mrs Mirza for organising the week.
Thank you to Mr Lister who talked to Yellow Class about running a business. They picked up many useful tips on how to host their event at the Hindlip Bazaar on Friday 23rd November at 3:00pm. The Friends have also arranged some stalls and entertainment as well, so this should be an exciting event. Some of the things that Yellow Class have organised are advertised on posters around school.
A reminder that the children finish on Thursday 18th October for half term, as there is a Teacher Day on the Friday. This will be spent setting teacher's targets and reviewing planning for the next half term.
October is Black History Month. The children have looked at Mary Seacole, Mother Theresa and Daley Thompson this week.
Thank you for your voluntary contributions of £1.50 per session or £15 for the term - these are needed for us to
sustain the music project in Years 3 and 4.
For your attention !
Just to update you on our road safety campaign. In the last 2 weeks you may have seen in the paper or heard on the local radio more publicity urging the local authorities to improve the signs, make the crossing point safer and put in measures to cut speeds. Sue Barnes (Ross's mum), Julia Letts (Izzy and Charlie's mum) and Ted Sheldon (County Councillor and school governor) have continued to attend meetings (6 since the BBC programme went out 6 months ago) and keep the issue on the Council's agenda. We have been promised a response by the Council's engineering department next week. Watch this space.
Ian Burley our Community Support Police Officer monitored the area outside school last week. He would like to point out the need for you to provide your child with a booster seat and not to park across the road, but in the Memorial Hall.
Thank you for your super support of the Usborne Book Fair (especially Mrs Squires). We have added money to the total raised and subsequently have invested heavily in buying guided reading and topic books for each class. Further book fairs will be organised throughout the year and we have budgeted for further investment from the school in the new year. This includes a set of resources to link reading at school and home, whereby you will receive guidance on how to help your child.
Table Tennis refund! If your child takes part in table tennis on Thursdays after school, unfortunately the coach has had to cancel the remaining sessions. Seeing as the first few were free of charge that means you may ask us for a refund as it is the paid sessions that the children will miss.
Some Y4 children went to the Garden of Peace and Tranquility at Police HQ on Thursday. They planted some wallflowers, pansies, autumn and spring flowers. Their behaviour was a credit to the school so well done them!
