5 Oct 2007 - Friday Newsletter
Thank you to everybody who supported our harvest assembly and gift aid donation to St. Paul's Hostel. I am sure you agree that the performance poetry, music and singing by the children was of a very high standard. I wish to thank the pupils, staff and outside speakers from Salwarpe Church and the hostel for their contributions to the service. As headteacher of Hindlip I am amazed at the community ethos of the school and how supportive of the school you are. Thank you.
Thank you for your voluntary contributions of £1.50 per session or £15 for the term - these are needed for us to
sustain the music project in Years 3 and 4.
Thank you for your super support of the Usborne Book Fair. Personally I was impressed with the quality and interest level of the books and I am sure your children will enjoy any that have been purchased. It is also very kind of Mrs Squires to have hosted a book event at her house and donated the orders to your own. Usborne Books are collecting any late payments on Tuesday, at which point we will know how much has been raised. I will let you know in next weeks newsletter. As I have said before we will make any shortfall up to £500 in order to claim a further £300 in books. This money will be used for guided reading and topic books for each class.
Thank you to the Friends of Hindlip who are donating £300 towards the cost of our science week which starts on Monday 15th October. Part of this week is an exciting whole school trip to the Thinktank at Millennium Point, Birmingham on Tuesday 16th. Please look out for a letter regarding arrangements at the start of next week.
Recorder Club will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays with Mrs Lewis and Mrs Barnes. A lot of the work will be
towards the Christmas Carols concert. In order to ensure a more inclusive and effective approach and allow the children more playtime the group will be split into the beginners on Monday, with the more advanced group on Wednesday.
Thank you to Mr and Mrs Simpson who have donated some books and footballs to the school. We really value the parental support at Hindlip as it allows the children further opportunities.
Thank you to all of you who supported the coffee morning last Friday in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support. We have managed to raise a tremendous £47.30 for this wonderful charity.
October is Black History Month. The children will be learning about icons and stories from the past during assemblies. If you feel you or someone else could contribute to this please see Mr. Tilley
Yellow class are doing a Young Enterprise project whereby they are organising an event for our school
community. They are currently forming a business plan. If you have any business expertise eg setting a budget,
planning an event please see Mr. Tilley if you can talk to them for about ten minutes about your experiences. They work on this during Tuesday afternoons. They are
combining their event with the Friends of Hindlip Bazaar on Friday 23rd November. This will include a number of exciting events which the children will be advertising soon.
Years 2 and 3 have started a Film Literacy project. This has been used widely throughout Birmingham in particular to raise standards of writing. Based on visual literacy and looking at the different ways children learn it contains some exciting activities. Mr Tilley is taking the sessions, which will run throughout the year. It is envisaged that the concepts of it will feed into other year groups and that they will have some experience of this later on in the year.
